Description: ATI develops specialty polymers and processes for use in high-performance composites, adhesives, coatings, foams, and recycling processes. We also develop a variety of sensors, instruments, and air pollution control devices. Research at ATI centers around expertise in surface science, composites, coatings, sensors, and polymer science. Current technology focus areas include radiation (UV, electron-beam) curing composite matrix resins, coatings, and adhesives; self-deploying and rigidizable, inflatable spacecraft; conductive thermal control coatings for spacecraft; fiber optic-based sensor systems; specialty finishes for improving composite interfacial adhesion; recycling of polymer-based wastestreams; high speed fabrication of powder impregnated composite preforms; and specialty foams for space applications.
